Email Messaging

ChiDesk uses either SendGrid or Mandrill for sending email messages. SendGrid is our recommended option as they offer a free account that allows you to send up to 12,000 emails per month free of charge.
 
By logging into your SendGrid account you can see detailed statistics about your email sending, including the number of opens, bounces and other important marketing information.
 
Setup a SendGrid account
  1. Navigate to https://sendgrid.com/pricing and select the Free Plan option.
  2. Submit your account details and confirm your email address.
  3. Submit your profile details. Select the "Transactional" for the email type selection. 
  4. Once you are logged into your account click on the Settings menu option in the left-hand menu, and then select API Keys.
  5. Click the Create API Key button and select General API Key.
  6. Enter ChiDesk as the name, and then under the Mail Send section select the Full Access radio option.
  7. Click the Save button and new screen will appear showing your API key.
  8. Select this key and paste it into the SendGrid Api Key text box in the Add Ons - SendGrid section of ChiDesk.
  9. You must also enter a From Name and From Email. These will indicate to your client who the email is from, and if they respond to the email it will go to this email address.
 
Setup a Mandrill account
  1. Navigate to https://mandrill.com/signup/ and sign up for a free Mandrill account.
  2. Once you have logged into your Mandrill account click on the Settings menu option in the left-hand menu.
  3. On this SMTP & API Credentials page you will see an API Keys section.
  4. If no key exists then click the New API Key button.
  5. Enter ChiDesk as the Description and then click the Create API Key button.
  6. You will now see an entry under the API Keys section.
  7. Under the Key column you will see a string of numbers and letters. It will look something like the following: zu2hihovhF5r1qRSNPHpBg.
  8. Select this key and paste it into the Mandrill Api Key text box in the Messaging section of ChiDesk.
  9. You must also enter a From Name and From Email. These will indicate to your client who the email is from, and if they respond to the email it will go to this email address.
